Development Process

This project was born out of Monique and my shared loved of rodents in an attempt to create a game that is both fun to play and informative. Rodents get a bad rap in society and so we wanted to create a game that educates players and teaches them empathy for these little creatures. Therefore our primary design goal for this game became to create a bond between the player and these rodents. One of the main ways we tried to do this was by creating a Rodent Log in the game which educates the player with fun facts about the different rodents. Of course Monique's adorable art helped this game along way too.

In this project I was the Lead Programmer. This meant I was responsible for designing and implementing a number of systems in the game, such as;

- The Ability to share achievements and unlocks to social media

- Have secure login that also saved players progress between plays

- Achievements that upload to an external leaderboard

- An income system and store

- A leveling with corresponding unlocks

- A merging system

- A spawning system

This was the first time I had worked on a project in which I had to implement a login system and therefore used the software Loot Locker. This program was useful initially but unfortunately the lack of documentation online meant that it's usefulness was quickly overshadowed the lack of use clarity. It was still a great learning period and I'm now much more familiar with what it takes to implement a system like this.
