Keep Dancing and Nobody Dies is a quirky, dark-humour, single-player VR music game. You must keep dancing while striking poses to fit through walls that move towards you. If you fail, dancers below will die. But don't worry, if you succeed you'll get a new high score! Yay exciting!

Development Process

Keep Dancing and Nobody Dies is a fusion of the classic Japanese Game Show, "Hole in the Wall" and "Squid Game" in that it is a seemingly simple game, with dire consequences. Our design aim was to create a game that was funny, confusing and macabre. We drew inspiration from an 80s roller rink in terms of the colours, lighting and included a charismatic voice-over to really set the tone.

I was the Lead Designer on this project and came up with the initial idea to create a game that was a dark twist on your classic rhythm game. I figured the idea that there were real consequences to your actions would be an interesting and fun idea to play with in this context. To keep the theme somewhat light I drew from a scene in 'Kingsmen' when everyone's heads explode into confetti and followed suit as it seemed the best way to illustrate the point without being morbid.
I learnt a lot about VR and focal points in scenes from this project as it was challenging to have players both focus on the walls moving towards them and have them observe the chaos occurring around them.
